In the 80s, the prominence of the big man in professional boxing took a downfall. The larger than life names of your Alis, Fraziers an’ Foremans, as hard as they could hit, they all couldn’t outlast the opponent of time. But in their place, the quicker took to the helm. The middleweights began to steal the spotlight on the back of four kings. Duran, Leonard, Hagler & Hearns. These four titans of the 20x20 have gone to WAR with each other, and put on some of the greatest battles that I’ve seen growing up under the night sky of Caesar’s Palace. Now we are FAR of such an issue for our heavyweights, but I feel a similar vibe when I look at our own Middleweight Division. Three men in particular, with three contrasting styles. “The Irish Hammer” William Burk. Our CCA Middleweight Champion, “Damage” Gage Grayson. Most importantly, our Openweight Champion of the World, Eduardo “El Terrible” Arellano. Upon the boardwalk, we’re gonna see two of these warriors do battle for one of our greatest prizes.

I wanna take y’all back to Arlington, Texas, AT&T Stadium. At CCA on AES Pound-4-Pound, Three of our four inaugural Champions have been crowned. Among them were our first ever Middleweight and Openweight Champions. In the past, we have seen that the Irish Hammer fears NO PUNCH. He is willing and able to get into the thick of things and take the abuse with full confidence that he has the power in those two fists to finish the fight when the time is right. Unfortunately for Willie here, that night in Texas, Arellano proved that those fists weren’t stronger than the ruthless Mexican fury.

Earlier that night, the combatant from Canada found himself across the ring from Graham Lawson, a rematch from a fight that took place in this very arena of the Boardwalk Hall. In these two bouts, I’ve learned more about the Canadian wrassler’s style. With Burk, He has been able to take the shots from bigger, more aggressive fighters, such as Tyrone Diggins or Satoshi Hakubi, en route to victory. Meanwhile, Gage Grayson has shown no need to finish a fight. “Damage” Gage is the most successful fighter on the roster to have not score a Knockout victory, proven when he was crowned our Middleweight Champion by unanimous decision for the second time against the Englishman. This will be the first time in a professional bout where Burk will take on such a defensive fighter.

Another factor to consider is the term “interim”. Being the first Champion in any sport is something to look down upon, but there is nothing more frustrating to a Champion when it is believed he does not deserved the gold. Or if he’s keeping the belt warm for a true Champion. Grayson has the shadow looming over him of two middleweights fighting in the main event over him. On this night, in the very arena where he made his debut, The Middleweight Champion will go face to face with who many consider the FACE of the Cobblestone Combat Association. And if Gage Grayson can silence the doubters, if he can leave Atlantic City still our Middleweight Champion, he shall be given a huge choice. He may remain on his throne as top of his weight class, or he can aim higher, relinquish his title and challenge the Openweight Champion in Eduardo Arellano.

On the same night as the crowning of two number one contenders, a new face in the name of Ryan Matthews, a wrestler who dropped 80 pounds for the chance to fight for the gold that these three fight for, and we shall see two gladiators filled with such fury & hatred look to turn their careers around quick after stumbling out the gates in their debuts. Ladies and gentlemen, I was very happy with the work of our warriors and the reception of the audience. With the line-up we have for this show, I am more than confident that we have the ability to ride this momentum into higher and greater pastures. That weekend in the winter, there will be blood on the boardwalk. We’ll see you all in AC.
